All about brows,5 products you can use for the perfect arch

I have been on a bit of a brow kick lately, blame the internet. Since full brows are in have been slightly obsessed with finding the right products to use, primarily because I was how do I say this very enthusiastic in the late 90’s following brow trends. This means I plucked my brows to death and still have some patchiness a reminder.

That being said there is now a myriad of products to choose from if you want great brows, we have pencils, gels, powders, pomades and if you want something more permanent micro-blading and micro shading. However, for this post I will concentrate on the non-permanent methods so that by the end you know exactly which the best is for you and why.

Keep in mind that more than one kind of brow product might apply to you. Your ideal brow filler can “depend on what your personal needs are

Brow Pencil

Pencils are the most popular and easy to use brow product in the market. One of the reasons they are so popular is that they give a soft, natural look to your brows and can also be a great base for brow powder.

These are the best option for a beginner; the trick is to make sure you choose the right shade for your brows.

Who is it for: Beginners and anyone else?

How to use it:

Do not start from the beginning of your brows because we tend to use more force which means more products is deposited causing your brows to look overdone. Instead, start from the bottom of your arch or the most sparse areas and move out from there. Use short, feather-like strokes .in the direction of your hair growth.

Try these:

Brow Powder

Another popular product is the eyebrow powder which is extremely versatile and can be used to fill the gaps, give volume, and shape the eyebrows. Powders can give you a softer effect than other brow products and can be used to set brow pencils to make them last longer. However, if you have trouble picking a shade, choosing a colour close to your base hair colour.

Who it’s for:  Anyone however you should avoid if you have dry skin.

How to use it:

You’ll need an angled brush to effectively fill in your brows with powder, and then sweep it in the direction of your hair growth with a light hand. Again, start with your arches before filling in the rest of your brows and comb through with a spoolie brush to soften edges.

Try these:

Brow Pomade

Pomade is a more recent brow product and is the secret to the bold brows and give a more defined and dramatic look. Because brow pomade is creamy it is able to hold your eyebrows in place. The people with sparse brows to make them look fuller more natural can use the brow pomade; if your brows are thick they make them a show stopper.

Who it’s for: Those with very sparse brows and looking for an easy way to fill them in.

How to use it:

Use an angled brush with short, stiff bristles and apply with light, short strokes, beginning at the centre of your brow. Always use a spoolie to soften the edges and disperse the product properly.

  • L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Frame and Set (Shop Now)

Brow Marker

This product I have personally never used but am the best for covering bald spot and scar tissue. Brow markers look like felt-tipped liquid liner and allow you to draw on strokes that look like individual brow hairs. Combined with powder give a natural look to those with no hair at all. Because the product is long-lasting it works best for people with oily skin.

Who it’s for: “Oilier skin types and those living in humid conditions

How to use it

Draw on the marker on with “short strokes with light pressure throughout the brow in the direction of growth to mimic hairs. Make sure to use a light touch because the product is very dark otherwise it will look unnatural.

Try these:

Brow gels

Brow gels give you the best of both worlds they add colour as well as provide fullness and hold to the brows. They are not recommended for beginners because they can be a bit difficult to use and need some practice.

Who it’s for: Anyone especially if your brow hairs are coarse and unruly.

How to use it:

Use a spoolie to first apply the to your brows in against the hair-growth direction then brush in the direction of your brow hair growth. This smooths it out and makes sure to get it on each follicle, remember to use a light touch.

Try these:

Brow wax

These are for the brows that have a mind of their own and need to be fully controlled. Brow wax , works best for people who do not need additional colour in their brows but need them to stay put and give them shape. It is also a good base for brow powder.

Who it’s for:  If you have wiry brow hair or hair growing in different directions

How to use it.

The wax should be applied from the bottom of the brows and then combed upwards with a brush

Try these:

  • Nudestix Brow Wax
  • Urban Decay Brow Box
  • E.L.F. Shape & Stay Wax Pencil
