5 ways to heatproof your makeup so that you look like an ice princess

5 ways to heatproof your makeup

Hot girl summer may be over in other countries, but in Nigeria, we are going into our own hot season so learning how to heatproof your makeup is extremely important.  Here are some tips to keep your makeup on without out looking like a clown caught in a drizzle

1. Use a lightweight, quality primer.

One way to heatproof your makeup is by using a makeup primer. A makeup primer helps your makeup stick to your face, and in the heat, this is doubly important.  Primers are made for humid weather because they extend the life of the foundation you apply over the top, keeping it looking fresh all day long. Some makeup artists recommend using it only along your  T-Zone, side of the nose, and cheeks to keep your skin from looking dull or unnaturally flat and matte.

The best primers to use are water-based because they act as a magnet while avoiding silicon primers because they can dry out the skin, producing more oil. So choose a lightweight if possible gel primer like the  Zaron Face Primer to keep your makeup in place.

2. Use a long-wearing foundation.

We love matte foundations over here so using a long-wear foundation may not be a stretch. Choosing the right base, in this case, a long-wear foundation will keep your makeup on your face like minimal slippage. Liquids and gels tend to work best in humid weather and for the best results apply the foundation in light layers or spot treat areas where you need more coverage That way your face is not over caked with foundation.

3. Use waterproof mascara & eyeliner

Unless you want to look like you have been crying or in a boxing match then waterproof eye makeup is the way to go.  That way you can still get your volume and length and be sure it won’t be sliding down your face in a few hours. A good affordable mascara is the Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Waterproof Mascara which is widely available.

4. Blotting papers are essential

Even when you have done everything right from choosing the best foundation, primer and mascara the heat sometimes wins and you sweat through it all. That is when your trusty blotting paper comes into play you can use them to blot your T-zone, forehead, or cheeks.

Most experts suggest that using the powder in the heat is not the best way to contain shine because the continuous application of can make your face look  cakey

5. Wear your hair up.

This is the time to retire or at least put away your 24-inch weave. When the heat is at its peak long hair is one of the major causes of excess sweat and oil around your face. So wearing your hair or a short hairstyle will reduce the amount of sweat produced.

Bonus tips

  1. Use Less Makeup
