Review: Orma Skincare

Source:Hilary says

I discovered Orma skincare scrolling through my Instagram feed and have reviewed their flagship product the Spot eradicator mask, you can read the review here. Because I enjoyed using the spot eradicator mask I decided to try out some other products as well as repurchase the spot eradicator.

I decided to repurchase the spot eradicator mask and 2 additional products the Orma glow clay mask and the Glow Scrub. The reason I chose these 3 products are that my current my skin issues are active acne and hyperpigmentation. Each of the products addresses my skin issues in different ways. So let’s get started with my thoughts on each of the products

Orma spot Eradicator mask

The main active ingredients in the mask are glycolic acid, tea tree oil and activated charcoal. Glycolic acid is useful in dealing with skin pigmentation in addition; the activated charcoal and tea tree oil which is included help reduce active acne.

Benefits of Glycolic acid

  • Reduces acne spots and scars
  • Brightens the complexion and hydrates dry skin
  • Reduces signs of ageing
  • Improves skin texture
  • Increases collagen production

Tea tree oil, on the other hand, has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties which help treat active acne. In addition, it reduces redness and prevents acne scars. Activated charcoal is also well known for its benefits of pulling bacteria and other micro-particles to the surface of the skin which is key in reducing acne and giving you a blemish-free complexion.

How to use

The actual mask is dark grey in colour and has a pudding (custard) like consistency which allows you to spread it evenly across your face. Leave on for about 20 minutes or until it is completely dry then wash off and continue with your regular skincare routine. As I mentioned in my previous review I use the mask twice a week or for spot treatment if I have a huge pimple

Results

The second time around I still love this product because it lives up to its promise. My active acne reduces significantly within a day of using the Orma spot eradicator mask and it has continued to improve my skin texture and skin pigmentation issues.

Also, don’t let the size of the tube fool you it lasts a long time, I use mine regularly and it has lasted well over 3 months. One of the problems I had in the past with the mask was that you had to make sure to shake the tube before application otherwise you would get an eyeful of product, however with this new packaging the formula is so much better and  the product comes out exactly as you expect with zero issues with spillage

Cost – N10, 000/60mls

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Is effective for active acne
  • No irritation and is suitable for sensitive skin
  • Quick worldwide delivery
  • Easily accessible, the brand is active on Instagram and very responsive

Cons

  • Must use a sunscreen because it causes skin sensitivity

Who it is for

For people with active acne and hyperpigmentation

Rating

4/5 it is a very effective mask and one I bought repeatedly

Orma Glow clay mask

Source: Orma skincare Instagram

As the name states the main ingredient in this mask is kaolin clay, which is a gentle exfoliator and cleanser. Kaolin removes the impurities from the skin without drying it out unlike other types of clays. The mask also contains Turmeric and Honey both are ingredients that have skin-enhancing properties, turmeric for hyperpigmentation and skin brightening and honey which antibacterial

Benefits of Kaolin clay

  • It reduces the appearance of your pores
  • Regulates Sebum production so is good for oily skin
  • Antibacterial so reduces acne

How to use

The clay mask is bright yellow in colour with a thick but spreadable consistency. However, unlike the spot eradicator mask, the clay mask does not spread as easily on my face and has a slightly chalky feel. To combat that I like to use a clean brush to spread it evenly on my skin and leave until it is completely dry then wash off. This mask can be used 2-3 times a week particularly if you have oily skin or oily patches.

Results

This is an okay product is effective however when compared to the spot eradicator mask it falls slightly short. I have quite oily skin and it does not do enough to absorb the oils and reduce my sebum production, that is understandable because Kaolin clay is best for dry or sensitive skin. So if you have very oily skin it may not be the mask for you.

Cost :N10,500 /60mls

Pros

  • Gentle on the skin so can be used for sensitive skin
  • Lasts a long time
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Slightly chalky which makes the application a bit annoying

For dry or sensitive skin

Rating

3/5 it was good but was not very effective for my skin type

Orma Glow Scrub

Source: Orma skincare Instagram

This is a great exfoliating scrub which removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores all of which help reduce breakouts. Using an exfoliating scrub reveals brighter, radiant skin and the additional ingredients turmeric and honey also contribute to improving skin quality and reducing pigmentation issues.

Benefits

  • Salt contains magnesium which helps to reduce inflammation and can flush away toxins.
  • Sea salt contains many skin loving minerals which can improve blood circulation to your skin.
  • Scrubs can be a secret weapon against ingrown hairs.

How to use

After cleansing your skins apply the scrub onto your damp skin and rub in circular motions starting with your cheeks and moving on to use your chin and forehead. The brand recommends that you can use the scrub twice a week, however since it is a manual exfoliator which can be quite harsh, I would recommend you only use this once a week.

Results

This is a very effective face scrub and it leaves my skin feeling baby soft after each use

Cost N 9,000.00/60ml

Pros

  • It increases circulation in your skin
  • The turmeric and honey also provide additional skin-enhancing benefits

Cons

  • A bit expensive considering the size
  • It’s a salt scrub that can be a bit harsh on facial skin and cause micro-tears in the skin.
  • When overused, they can leave skin dry and irritated.

who is it for

Not suitable for sensitive or broken skin

Rating

3/5 is an okay scrub but for me, the grains of sea salt is a bit too large for me so can be a bit irritating to the skin

Alternatives

  • Any scrub that is NOT Apricot scrub
