In my quest for great skin and the fact that having regular peels can be very pricy, I was overjoyed to learn about the Ordinary. AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. Which are a combination AHA and BHA solution that is used to resurface the skin
What is it
The Ordinary. AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a combination of Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) and Beta hydroxyl acids(BHA). The AHA exfoliate the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and even appearance while the (BHA) also exfoliate deeper under the skin to help clear pore congestion.
Because of the higher concentration of the combined 29% AHA/BHA solution the product of deeper exfoliation which helps fight visible blemishes, results in brighter more luminous skin, refined skin texture and a reduction in the look of fine lines.
What does it do
It is a combination of exfoliating acids that resurfaces the skin to produce visible results. Unlike most other exfoliating formulas from the ordinary this is not a leave-on formula because of the high concentration of acids which produces almost instant results but with less of the downtime and peeling associated with doctors’ office chemical peels
Appearance and packaging
This comes in the ordinary’s standard white packaging, in a white transparent bottle with a dropper. The product itself is a dark red due to the presence of the Tasmanian Pepper berry which gives it that colour.
How to use
First of all, this is a product that is recommended only if your skin is used to acid regular acid exfoliation because of the high concentration of acids. To prevent any adverse reactions ( read my post on my allergic reaction ) I did a patch test on my face just below my neck which would not be visible. For the patch test, I left the product on my skin for 5 mins then washed it off, when I did not have any adverse reaction for 24hours I went ahead to use the product as directed.
Prior to the application I washed my skin and let it dry (Not for use on wet skin). I applied it evenly across my face and neck using my fingertips, avoiding the eye area. After the recommended 10 minutes I rinsed it thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Do not leave it for longer than 10 minutes on your face and do not use it more than twice per week.
Pros
- It is inexpensive when compared to a doctor’s office chemical peel
- it completely resurfaces the skin
Cons
Because it contains alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) and beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) it may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and increase the possibility of sunburn.
So wear sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
Who is it for
- Anyone with blemishes, skin irregularities and poor skin tone
- Should not use on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin.
Cost
N6500-7000
Rating
Performance 5/5
The results from the ordinary AHA 30%+ 2% BHA peeling solution were almost immediate. By the next day, my face felt soft and within a few days, my blemishes and hyperpigmentation reduced.
I did notice some very slight flaking a few days after use but nowhere near what I experience after a chemical peel. My skin is refreshed and makeup looks so much more even on my skin afterwards. It does what it says it will and for the price, it’s a tough item to turn down. I’ve been using this for a few months now and I’ve noticed that my blemishes have gotten noticeably less pronounced.
But be careful when applying to your face and make sure to follow directions with regards to how long you leave it on, otherwise,, your skin may burn!
Quality 5/5
The product does exactly what it says on the tin and resurfaces the skin and reduces breakouts and acne. The packaging
Value for money 5/5
You cannot beat the price and the results produced when you compare it to similar products that produce the same results
Ease of use 5/5
The product is extremely easy to use and is applied like any other type of the ordinary’s serums. The thickness and viscosity of the serum prevent it from going into your eyes or any other orifice.
Overall rating 5/5
I give this product a solid 5/5 when you think about the price and the results that it produces it over-delivers on the promise. In addition, it is very easily accessible which makes it easy for anyone who needs to use it to get access.
