Review: Sunday Riley Good Genes- All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

If you are into skincare you must have heard about the Sunday Riley Brand. During my first foray into luxury, Sunday Riley Good Genes was a product that cropped up constantly. In addition, the reviews for most of their products were completely off the charts and the reviews for Good Genes Lactic acid Treatment were no exception. On all the blogs, the beauty websites and it was 5 stars all around so of course, I just had to buy it.

Before we get into the review, you need to know it is an expensive product, quite expensive. Because I know price is significant for most people I wanted to share my experience and results to help you decide if it is worth it or not.

What is it?

Sunday Riley Good Genes is a Lactic Acid-based Alpha Hydroxyl Acid (AHA), you can learn about AHAs here.

What does it do?

Good Gene is a chemical exfoliant which promises to exfoliate and clarify the skin making it brighter, and smoother and reduce the signs of hyperpigmentation. Lactic acid also helps your skin retain moisture making it plump, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Appearance and packaging

Good Genes come in an attractive frosted glass bottle with gold highlights and a pump.

How to use

Good Genes is best applied at night on freshly washed skin because AHAs can cause sun sensitivity so should not be used during the day. To get the best results, use between one to two pumps depending on your skin.

For really oily skin you may be able to use this as your serum and moisturizer. Since my skin is not that oily I used it as a treatment and combined it with my normal skincare routine. Always wear sunscreen to make sure your skin is protected.

Results

What can I say, Good Genes lives up to the hype. Within a few days my skin looked great, it was clearer, brighter more even-toned with less texture.  My makeup application also became also easier leaving me feeling like I had just left the spa. By the time I had gone through a full bottle of the product my skin looked phenomenal, my hyperpigmentation was markedly reduced and gone in some places. One of the reasons Good Genes works so well is due to the inclusion of ingredients such as aloe and liquorice. They provide additional skincare benefits and amplify the effects of Lactic acid.

Forget what anyone tells you this product has no dupe, I have tried other lactic acid serums they do not come close to giving similar results. The only downside is its price point, but it does its job so bite the bullet and buy it.

Cost

Pros

  • It comes with a pump which makes it airtight and reduces the likely hood of wastage. A good number of serums come with droppers ( not my favourite) since I have lost product from spills that way.
  • Does everything it promises – brightens skin, reduces texture, fine line and hyper-pigmentation
  • It does not contain any controversial skincare ingredients which can irritate sensitive skin.
  • It uses surgical-grade ingredients blended with botanicals which results in a potent but soothing formula

Cons

  • It is an expensive product and will run out pretty quickly with daily use.

Who is it for?

All skin types, but can be irritating for people with dry skin conditions like eczema or rosacea.

Rating

Performance: 5/5

This product is the Holy Grail for me and would be a permanent part of my regimen if it was less expensive. it does what it says and you can see results within 3  days.

Quality: 5/5

Effective ingredients, in a very attractive luxurious package which may add to the cost.

Value for money: 3/5

It costs $158 which is significantly more than similar products, however, none match its level of effectiveness so who is to say it is not value for money?

Ease of use: 5/5

It is extremely easy to use and the pump makes it even easier

Overall rating: 4/5

My skin loves the Sunday Riley Good Genes but my pocket doesn’t if money is not an issue for you then go and buy this now.
