2020, the year that will live on in infamy forever. As people living in the modern age, we got a taste of what Pharaoh of Egypt must have felt when he got the 10 plagues. But plagues aside because we all had to stay in something wonderful happened, people slowed down and started paying attention to things they had ignored in the past and one of these things was skincare.
While other industries struggled due to the pandemic the use of skincare products exploded and with that explosion came the questions on how to use certain products and when why they should be included in a skincare routine. That is why I the reason for this blog post, based on all Seeing Eye Google these are the most asked skincare questions of 2020 and I will answer them.
1.What is the Best Skin-care line?
This is pretty simple to answer there is no best skincare line, there are good skincare lines and there are skincare lines with good products. It depends on what you are looking for, and your price point. However, if you absolutely want to know a few brands that are enjoying quite a bit of popularity at the moment here it goes
- Cerave
- The ordinary
- The Inkey List
- Deviant skincare
- Tata Harper
- Kate Somerville and lots more
The lists are endless so chose a brand based on the products, cost and ethos.
2. What does Niacinamide do
Quite a bit it turns out. Niacinamide aka vitamin B3 is a water-soluble vitamin that helps to improve your skin in a variety of ways including reducing uneven skin tone, and dullness, oil control and enhancing barrier function.
Because of its recent popularity, almost every skincare brand has its version of Niacinamide available so you can get one for pretty much every price range. In addition, this is one product that works well with every single skin type from oily to –sensitive. Just be careful not to overdo it by choosing a high concentration less in more so stick with between 5-10% and you will be fine.

3.What does Hyaluronic acid do?
This is another product that has enjoyed a lot of popularity in the last 2years and 2020 was no exception. In the simplest terms, hyaluronic acid pulls water into your skin and keeps it hydrated. This makes it a perfect ingredient for people with dehydrated, dry and mature skins.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our skin and helps with healing and repair. Unfortunately like most things the hyaluronic acid content in our skin tends to deplete as we get older. Some people love hyaluronic acid while others are meh.
However one of the reasons people are not favourably disposed towards it is because they use it the wrong way. To get the best from your hyaluronic acid you need moisture which means you need to layer it above and under a hydrating product i.e. face mist or moisturiser NOT oil.
4. What does Retinol do to your face?
This is my favourite skincare product ever!!! And I have 2 blog posts on how it improves your skin and you can check them out HERE and HERE.
Let me give you a summary of what it is and what it does. Retinol is vitamin A and is the most studied anti-ageing skincare compound in the world and is useful for a host of skincare issues. It was developed as an acne treatment but it was found to reduce fine lines, and wrinkles as well as reduce pigmentation.
Once you are over 25 years old retinol needs to be included in your skincare routine. If you want to learn more about how to incorporate retinol into your routine check out the posts HERE Part 1 AND HERE Part 2.
